The announcement comes after some gas pumps lowered their rates.
On Friday, December 16, 2022, the next pricing window will likely see diesel offered at GH15 per litre while gasoline prices are anticipated to continue to decline.
The ministry added that it is talking with transportation companies to lower the prices by a margin that will benefit both travelers and transportation companies.
In an interview with Citi News, Hassan Tampuli, the deputy minister of transportation, stated, “We recognize that the fares would absolutely come down. We are presently debating the margin of decrease. The following pricing window will open on Friday, December 16th, 2022. We will therefore have the clearest picture and the percentage margin for the fare reduction when the new prices are revealed. The whole picture won’t become available until the window opens on Friday. The broader public should observe lower transportation costs by Monday, perhaps.
Hold your breath and expect some reduction soon, Ghanaians, according to Godfred Abulbire, General Secretary of the Ghana Private Road and Transport Union (GPRTU).
“Once the fuel prices have come down, the fares will be reduced. The reduction is obvious. Fare increment is not in the interest of anybody. Today, what we have discussed is to arrive at the margin for reduction that the general public and operators will equally be satisfied with. So on, Monday, we will conclude on the actual margin,” Mr. Abulbire assured.
A meeting to discuss a fare reduction between the Ministry of Transport and transportation providers on December 15, 2022, resulted in a deadlock
