Ghanaian referee AFCON semi-final, The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed Ghanaian referee Daniel Nii Ayi Laryea to officiate the high-profile AFCON semi-final between Morocco and Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The much-anticipated encounter will take place at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat on Wednesday, January 14, 2026. It marks Laryea’s second appointment at AFCON 2025, underlining his rising status on the continental stage.
Laryea previously handled Burkina Faso’s narrow 1–0 defeat to Algeria during the Group E matches in December 2025. His composed performance in that game earned him trust for what many fans describe as a “final before the final.”

For the semi-final, Laryea will receive support from an experienced officiating team. Zakhele Thusi and Granville Siwela of South Africa, alongside Souru Phatsoane of Lesotho, will serve as assistant referees. Arsenio Chadreque Maringule of Mozambique will act as the fourth official.
The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) team will be led by Abongile Tom of South Africa. He will be assisted by Haythem Guirat of Tunisia and Stephen Onyango Yiembe of Kenya. Lidya Tafesse Abebe of Ethiopia has been named referee assessor for the match.
Known for his calm authority and consistency, Laryea has built a strong reputation for managing high-pressure fixtures. His appointment further highlights Ghana’s continued influence in African football officiating at the highest level.
