Bunmi Akinnanu’s death follows months of growing concern among fans and fellow believers. During this period, repeated calls for prayers circulated on social media as she battled a serious medical condition that affected her leg.
In late 2025, a video of the singer during a prayer session at G.F. David Ministries in Ibadan, Oyo State, went viral. The footage showed her seated with her leg stretched out while church leaders prayed intensely for her recovery, drawing widespread sympathy and alarm.
During the service, the officiating pastor revealed that Akinnanu had been experiencing persistent bleeding from the affected leg. The emotional disclosure led to nationwide prayer chains and strong support from admirers, gospel artistes, and faith communities across Nigeria.
Despite the public attention, the exact nature of her illness was never officially disclosed by her family or management.
Bunmi Akinnanu began her music journey at the age of 10 and later made a bold decision to leave a career in banking to pursue gospel music full-time. Her breakout song, “Omije Ojumi,” cemented her place in Nigerian gospel music, touching lives with its message of faith and hope.
Over the years, she released several other gospel songs and earned recognition as one of the respected voices in the Nigerian gospel music industry. Her passing marks a significant loss to gospel music lovers and the Christian community at large.
