Ghanaians on the internet are currently applauding the gallant police officer who shot and unalived the notorious galamseyer at Jacobu who seized his service rifle and tried running away with it.
The incident occurred on January 23, 2026, after the patrol team intercepted a 15-year-old boy found in possession of a pump-action gun.
According to police, the officers retrieved the weapon and instructed the teenager to direct the weapon’s owner to report to the police station with the necessary documentation.
However, the situation reportedly escalated shortly afterwards when the patrol team was confronted by a large group of civilians, estimated to be about 100 people.
Police say the crowd blocked the road and they were armed with cutlasses and firearms.
In the ensuing confrontation, the group assaulted the police officers and succeeded in making away with a service rifle belonging to the patrol team.
Police sources indicate that during attempts to regain control of the situation, officers shot the individual who seized the service weapon.
Another individual, believed to be an illegal miner (galamseyer), also sustained injuries during the clash.
The police later recovered the stolen service rifle, restoring control at the scene.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has condemned the attack and assured the public that thorough investigations are underway to identify and arrest all persons involved in the assault on the officers.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order and warned against attacks on security personnel performing their lawful duties.
