The Auditor-General, Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu, has ordered the immediate removal of 6,263 personnel from the government payroll following a nationwide payroll audit.
The affected individuals, according to the audit report, could not be accounted for during a headcount and verification exercise conducted across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), as well as Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs).
“I have concluded the audit and observed that 6,263 personnel on the payroll could not be accounted for during the headcount and verification exercise,” the Auditor-General stated, recommending their immediate deletion from the payroll.
The Ghana Education Service recorded the highest number of unverified personnel 3,120, raising fresh concerns about payroll inefficiencies within the public sector.
Copies of the report have been forwarded to the Minister of Finance, the Chief Director of the Ministry of Finance, and the Director of Payroll at the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department to ensure prompt action.
The directive forms part of ongoing efforts to eliminate ghost names and safeguard public funds
