A policy Analyst following Methodist Church of Ghana’s decision to reject the directive for Wesley Girls to permit Muslim students to fast during Ramadan has said orders from the GES are nothing to schools anymore.
Mr. Kofi Asare in a social media post sighted by Educationweb.com.gh said “So Wesley Girls too say they are above the Ghana Education Service (GES) and Ministry of Education (MoE), so the GES directive is beans.”
The Executive Director of Education Think Tank, Africa Education Watch comment comes after the Ghana Education Service directed all schools to allow Muslim students to participate in the ongoing Ramadan fasting.
But, the owners of the Wesley Girls’ High School, Methodist Church of Ghana after a Tuesday meeting have said the school’s rule which states “students are not to fast on campus” will not be compromised.
“The school rule in question is a long-standing one which is also non -religious and various renowned Muslim ladies in Ghana have passed through the school adhering to such a rule,” Methodist stated in a release.
According to Church, the policies of the Wesley Girls’ High School (Wey Gey Hey) over the 186 years of its existence have resulted in making the Wesley Girls Senior High School (SHS) being the school of choice.
The Methodist Church has also ured GES to respect the long-standing partnership between the Government and Mission schools.
