We’ll surely pass E-levy; NDC MPs can’t dictate to Akufo Addo gov’t – Nhyiaeso MP Stephen Amoah

Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons, Dr. Stephen Amoah, has stated that the government would do all in its power to approve the contentious 1.75 percent fee on all electronic transactions, which has sparked widespread outrage.

He thinks that the planned tax would be implemented with or without the participation of the Minority in Parliament and that the NDC MPs have no authority to direct the government on the contentious E-Levy.

He claims that, according to “Whatever they [the Minority] want to do, we would support them… We will complete it at the appropriate time. They are unable to accomplish anything.”

He said the following in an interview with TV3: “We are in government, so if they argue that doing so would make us unpopular, why won’t they back down? They are well aware that this would have a profound impact on the lives of Ghanaians.”

If the proposed E- levy is approved by Parliament, it will take effect on February 1, 2022, one year after it is passed.

As a result of the tax, Ghanaians have expressed a range of opinions, with some saying it would just add to their financial burden while others say it will benefit them in the long run.
