We are disappointed in 15pesewas fuel reduction – GPRTU
Following Finance Minister Ken Ofori-speech Atta’s on Thursday, March 24, transport companies in Ghana expressed disappointment over the government’s GHp15 per litre reduction.
Although the GHp15 will not modify their determination to evaluate fares, it will allow them to assess the percentage increase.
“We are shocked” by the Finance Minister’s statement on reducing attempts to revive the economy, said GPRTU Head of Industrial Relations Alhaji Abass Ibrahim Moro. Even private drivers are astonished. We, the business or professional drivers, anticipated more than a 15 pesewas cut.
“The 15 pesewas is absolutely insufficient,” he added.
“Most people would quit driving if it occurs like this,” Alhaji Moro remarked.
“How will you pay for your child’s care? Look at the cab drivers, they’re dripping… at the end of the day”.
He voiced concern that “the decrease would only last three months”.
“Who knows whether gasoline prices will rise? We’ll sit Monday-Tuesday. We will contribute extra to the 15% recommended increase to the Transport Ministry since this 15% will not modify our resolve to raise our fares”.
