Students, teachers contracts ‘Delta variant’ covid at Motown – GHS

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) say some students and teachers of the Accra-based Achimota School have tested positive for the new locally transmitted virus termed Delta variant which was first detected in India.

Director-General of the Health Service, Dr Patrick Kuma Aboagye confirming the outbreak of the new virus said a total of 135 students and teachers initially tested positive for the coronavirus disease on campus with various variants.

“Active cases of the transmitted virus as of Sunday, July 4, 2021, is 46. The active cases on the Achimota campus is a combination of different variants but the Delta variant is the dominant one,” the GHS Director-General stated.

He however refused to mention the actual number of the Delta cases recorded at Achimota Senior High School except to say that a “significant” number of the cases were the Delta variant.

According to him, infected students including some of the students who are day students have been quarantined as coronavirus tests are still ongoing on the Achimota school campus.
