Students at Koforidua Senior High Technical School (SECTECH) sleep on the narrow floor spaces between beds, this is as a result of overcrowding.
Due to a lack of suitable beds, it has become impossible to follow the social separation policy.
According to sources, students are having difficulty sleeping, particularly at night, which is affecting their academic performance.
When several old students returned to their alma mater, they were shocked by the scenario and published videos on social media.
They said they are obliged to sleep on one small bed to avoid sleeping on the bare floor during their encounter with some of the students.
George Agyei Boateng, President of the Koforidua SECTECH Old Students Association, raised concern over the school’s deteriorating condition.
“There has been practically little improvement at the school since I left in 1982. In an appearance on Adom FM’s morning programme, Dwaso Nsem, on Monday, he said, “I’m genuinely astonished at what I observed in the school under President Akufo-Addo’s free Senior High School (SHS) policy”
Mr Boateng encouraged the government to enable parents to pay fees in light of the current situation, citing shortcomings in the execution of the free SHS programme.
