The recent spate of contract killings coupled with robbers attacking policemen and shooting bullion van cases in the country has created a cloud of insecurity and making many questions “How safe are we as Ghanaians?
Despite Ghana’s reputation of being a generally safe country, the influx of people into the city centres with limited chance of gaining employment has led to an increase in social vices.
And the recent death of Constable Emmanuel Osei who was providing security for the Mon Tran bullion van alongside a bystander Afua Badu has raised more concern about the state of Ghana’s security.
And as a result, it has become known that over 40,000 policemen in Ghana can boast of only 5000 bulletproof vests, Nana Frimpong Ziega of Kumasi-based Kessben Fm has envisaged.
According to Nana Frimpong Ziega, he can’t understand why Prez Akufo Addo and the IGP should stoop so low and play dice with the safety of Ghana policemen considering how money is being wasted on the infamous Black Stars.
He, therefore, pleaded with James Oppong-Boanuh who happens to be Ghana’s Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to do the needful and secure more protective apparatus for the policemen as they are doing the most to ensure the safety of the populace.
