Police Man Assaults Medical Doctor For Examining His Wife Without His Permission

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has denounced a police officer’s assault on one of its members after the officer alleged that the doctor had checked his wife without his permission.

The incident, which took place on Sunday, February 26, 2023, in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology unit of the General Hospital in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, reportedly led to a walkout by the hospital’s medical staff.
The rogue police officer was a member of the Police Mobile Force, according to Dr. Ola Ahmed, the chairman of NMA in Kwara State.

She was later released after the doctor performed the required tests. Nonetheless, the sergeant went back to the hospital and attacked the medical professional who had just examined his wife.

He recalled: “The sergeant complained that the doctor did not obtain his permission before checking his wife and that it is a taboo in his culture.
The doctor eventually managed to escape the hostile police officer, but not without suffering some injuries.
The questioned police officer was eventually detained and is apparently cooperating with the inquiry after being jailed.
Dr. Ola Ahmed bemoaned that it is depressing that the very people that the medical professionals strive tirelessly to help every day are assaulting them rather than showing gratitude for their efforts.
“Those who we are attempting to save are abusing and attacking doctors. We get at work as early as 7 am and leave late.
With jingles, banners, and talk programs, we have informed the public and urged them to stop attacking doctors, the official said.

In order for medical professionals to continue saving lives, the Medical Association is imploring society’s citizens to appreciate and love them
