The Institute for Education Studies (IFEST) following the conduct of the 2021 national standardised examination for primary 4 students has suggested for the test to be administered by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
IFEST recommendation comes after the Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum Sunday at a press briefing monitored by EducationWeb.com.gh announced a national standardised test will be organized for basic 4 students.
The standardised examination, Dr Adutwum said forms part of efforts to improve learning outcomes and reduce learning poverty and help the government see the challenges that are confronting the country’s education sector.
The independent policy and research institute in a statement commending the Education Ministry for the introduction of the national standards assessment test (NSAT) said they should ensure the validity and sanctity of the exams.
“Ensure that the validity and sanctity of the NSAT are protected to guarantee almost flawless implementation,” it said.
IFEST further advocated that the Agency responsible for curriculum and assessment should be made to partner with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to conduct the 2021 edition of the NSAT slated for November this year.
In a related development, the Education Minister has said a not-census national standardised test will also be conducted for primary two and four students randomly.
“We are doing a randomized sample assessment for primary 2 and primary 6 students, so we are selecting such student across the country to test them, those are random and not a census,” Adutwum told a radio station.
