As part of Government’s vision in building One solid waste facility in every Region with the collaboration of Zoomlion Ghana Limited across the country , President Akufo Addo has officially cut sod to start the construction of Upper West Region Waste treatment plant at Kperisi in the Wa Municipality.
So far, the President have cut sod in Eight (8) Regions, and also commissioned one ultra modern completed in the Asanti Region.
At the sod cutting ceremony of the Upper West Region solid waste facility, President Akufo Addo pointed out that, the project is critical and important in the sanitation sector saying, his objective is to make Ghana the cleanest country in Africa.
He noted that, the easiest way to develop a country fast, is to partner the private sector and assured of his government’s preparedness to work hand-in-hand with Zoomlion Ghana Limited to improve sanitation in Ghana. President Akufo Addo therefore, expresses satisfaction of the strong collaboration that exist between Hon. Cecilia Abena Dapaah and Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong in fighting for clean environment.
The Paramount Chief of Kperisi Traditional Area, Naa Seidu Mahama II in his address said, the facility when completed would help manage all solid waste generated in the region, improve the environment and also create jobs for the people.
He disclosed that the Region has witnessed a lot of developmental projects under the 4 years of President Akufo Addo administration. The President, Naa Seidu Mahama II indicated is a listening President that always have his people at heart. He averred that his people under the 4 years of the President’s rule, has benefited tremendously from the free SHS policy, Agriculture etc, making Ghanaians feel comfortable.
The Paramount Chief however, appealed to the President on behalf of his people to improve electrification in some communities in the area. He also reminded the President about a promise made to them on the establishment of a Technical Institute at Kperisi Municipality, adding that lands have been made available for the project.
The Executive Chairman of Jospong Group of Jospong/Zoomlion, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong in a short address said, the 16 solid waste facilities across the 16 regions when completed, would employed about 10,000 people. The Upper West Region project he stated, would be completed in 4 moths time and thanked the Paramount Chief of Kperisi and his people together with the Regional Minister for making land available for the project.
Hon. Cecilia Abena Dapaah, Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources on her part disclosed that President Akufo Addo has pledged to give an unfrinching support to the private sector to ensure a total transformation in all sectors of the economy. She commended Dr. Siaw Agyepong for embracing the President vision of collaborating with the private sector.
The Minister disclosed that the facility is expected to generate 521 tonns of waste daily, and urge the people to disist from dumping refuse Indiscriminately likewise, avoid burning waste. She called on the Assembly to give Zoomlion all the necessary support to enable the President’s vision of making Ghana the cleanest country in Africa comes true.
