A 48-year-old Perth man has been arrested by the police for having multiple wives.
According to the police, the man will face court on charges of bigamy. He has been accused of being separated from his first wife but not divorced when he married his second woman in July 2020.
Aside from the second woman he married in July 2020, the suspect was reported to have married a third woman last year after separating from his second wife without divorce.
Australian Federal Police began investigating after the man’s first wife, who is based in the eastern states, contacted the second wife via social media and exposed his alleged duplicity.
They say the second marriage was considered invalid in Australia because the man was still legally married to his first wife.
