Oliver Barker-Vormawor, one of the victims’ legal counsel, criticised the government of Ghana’s compensation to the victims and their families.
In 2021, military officers murdered two protesters in Ejura, Ashanti Region.
The victims and their families received $250,000 apiece, as recommended by a government investigation commission.
In a Facebook post, #FixTheCountry coordinator Oliver Barker says the compensation testifies to the importance accorded to human life in Ghana.
He cited a recent UK case where French player Kurt Zouma was fined £250,000 after a video of him kicking his animals went viral.
A cat in the UK is preferable than a person in Ghana, according to Barker-Vormawor.
“250,000 apiece for the Ejura victims, £250,000 fine and deal cancellation because Zouma kicked a cat. In France, he faces prison time.
“It’s better to be a cat in the UK than a human in Ghana,” he wrote on his Facebook page.
