Ghanaians continue to debate the recent happenings in Parliament and has expressed worry and disappointment over how the lawmakers have been engaging themselves in some actions. It is on record that what happened in the chamber is a clear sign of a House that is divided over the controversial Electronic transactions levy proposal of the government.
Pictures circulating on social media captures some lawmakers busily exchanging blows over the speaker’s chair. One MP who appeared strong and was seen pushing some NDC lawmakers who attempted to stuffed the speaker’s Chair was Honourable Yves Nii Noi Hanson-Nortey. He has been praised by many sympathisers of the NPP for displaying his boldness in the Chamber.
while ago, the lawmaker who doubles as the Member of Parliament for Tema Central constituency, Honourable Yves Nii Noi Hanson-Nortey was interviewed on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen show hosted by Osei Bonsu. The MP narrated what happened in the Chamber and his motivation for doing what he did during the scuffle in the House.
According to the lawmaker, he blames what happened in the Chamber on the ignorance of the Members of the Minority Caucus in Parliament. He has said that the Minority Caucus exercised impatience over the process and could have prevented what happened if they hadhad listened to the orders from the Speaker
.
Honourable Nii Noi Hanson explained that he was motivated to protect the speaker’s Chair because it is a disrespect for the Speaker to be treated in such manner. He believes that his failure to defend what is right would mean that same treatment can be meted out to the President whenever he visits the Chamber.
Speaking further, he made revelations on how his constituents reacted to what happened in Parliament. According to the MP, he has received several congratulatory messages from the people of Tema Central for his ability to restrict the NDC MPs from taking away the Speaker’s Chair. He however registered his disappointment over the recent happenings in Parliament.
