HCH launches Preemie Week Celebration

World Prematurity, Preemie for short was created on November 17, 2011 to raise awareness for the millions of children every year who are born prematurely.

It is a moment to show compassion and support for families who are experiencing the anxiety of premature births by observing World Prematurity Day, created by the March of Dimes. We love our babies from the moment they’re born.

However since inception of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Hope Christian Hospital (HCH) in the year 2019, despite the international awareness and celebration, Hope Christian Hospital has not celebrated their wonderful day.

It is on this view that, the entire facility and the unit made it a must to create awareness to give a second chance to preterm babies.

The Managing Director of the Group Village of Hope Dr. Fred Asare gave short note the celebration where he stated that it was the first time HCH celebrating the prematurity week as he announced the launch of the celebration.

He quickly acknowledged the team from United State of America lead by Dr. Kelly, Dr. Harold, And Lisa for their support.

Dr. Peasah, the Medical Director of Hope Christian hospital described the case in Ghana and added that in every 15 minutes new baby dies, and that can be resolved since it’s an error.

As an instance, Dr. Peasah sited baby of 26 weeks of gestation had survived and didn’t die. Technically, it was an abortion since babies of 26 weeks has no or limited chances of surviving in Ghana because of lack of resources. However with help of an able medical staff, the baby was given a second chance to live.

In one-on-one interaction with the unit in-charge Miss. Ernestina Asante, expressed lack of resources, lack of funds, and verbal abuse from some parents are their major challenges. She acknowledged the warming support of some benevolent people and groups whiles emphasizing on these few things when available will help save more lives and meet the needs of their babies.
