Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has come a longway to drop the postponed Population and Housing Census 2021. The population and housing census have been conducted in Ghana at approximately ten-year intervals since 1891. Ghana conducted five population censuses after independence which 24.7million was in 2010.
Ghana will conduct its third population and housing census this year with data collection scheduled for the first half of 2021. Field work for the 2021 PHC is scheduled to begin on 13th June, 2021 for the listing of structures and 28th June , 2021 as the main enumeration.
For this purpose, training session for prospective field officers have been organised nation wide to embark on the PHC 2021. Trainees upon seeing the allowance package, officially wrote the authorities to reconsider the allowance package before 9th June, 2021 or else they will boycott the entire exercise.
Letter
With reference to the communique issued by the Ghana Statistical Service to the District Census Officers (DCO) which was read to all the trainees on the 7th day of June, 2021 (day 7 of the training) at 1Oam at Drobo Senior High School.
The contents of the communique read as follows;
1. The transportation for the 11 —day training exercise would be GHC330.00
2. There would not be any payment for the training
3. Remuneration for field work allowance – GHC 2,520.00 and GHC 2,940.00 for enumerators and supervisors respectively.
CONCERNS;
l. The transportation for the training should be GEIC 440.00 as earlier announced instead of GHC 330.00.
2. We should be paid an allowance for the training and this should not be less than GHC 800.00
3. Allowance for enumerators should be increased from GHC 2,520.00 to GHC 3,000.00 and GHC 2,940.00 to GHC 3,500.00 for Supervisors respectively.
4. What is the risk component(insurance) and transport allowance in the lump sum to be paid to enumerators and supervisors for the actual vsork for the 2021 Population Census exercise?
