The Education Service in a letter to all regional and district directors of education sighted by Educationweb.com.gh said: “The day is earmarked for only mathematics activities in our schools throughout the country”.

GES in the release indicated that the National Mathematics Day virtual ceremony with stakeholders would be organised at the Science Education Unit in Accra alongside the regional and district school activities.

It said the Mathematics Day which should have been observed on 14th February this year, had to be postponed to February 17 since the February 14 date widely known as Val’s Day fell on a weekend and not a school day.

The National Mathematics Day, according, to GES, is for students to show love for the subject most Ghanaian candidates have described as difficult.

Candidate’s performance after the conduct of the annual West African Examinations Council (WAEC) BECE and WASSCE for School examination over the years is evidence of the challenge students have with the subject.
