Election Petition: Rojo Mettle-Nunoo to be in the witness box today

Robert Joseph (Rojo) Mettle-Nunoo, will today, Monday, February 8, be in the witness box as the Principal Witness 3 for Petitioner John Dramani Mahama, in the ongoing election petition at the Supreme Court.

Due to his ill health, Rojo Mettle-Nunoo will be cross-examined via online video conference.

The cross-examination was slated for Friday, February 5, 2021, but Akoto Ampaw, lead counsel for the 2nd Respondent objected to 23 out of the 32-paragraph witness statement, and in some cases he wanted portions of paragraphs expunged.

But lead counsel for the Petitioner, Tsatsu Tsikata, in a counter-argument disagreed.

In an argument that lasted for hours, Tsatsu Tsikata gave instances that those portions raised by Akoto Ampaw should be kept in the witness statement.

The Justices of the Supreme Court led Chief Justice Anin Yeboah in a unanimous ruling ordered the removal of only five paragraphs to pave way for the cross-examination. These are paragraphs three, four, five, six and 18.

Mettle-Nunoo has become critical in the petition after Dr Michael Kpessa-Whyte, who was the second witness for the Petitioner, during cross-examination, told the court that his colleague, Rojo Mettle-Nunoo, informed him of an instruction by the EC to deliver a message to John Dramani Mahama who is the petitioner in this case.
