Education Minister to appear before Parliament Thursday over bigoted Ewe textbooks

Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum is expected to appear before Parliament Thursday, March 25, 2021, to respond to a former Education Minister question on the offensive Ewe textbooks stereotyping Voltarians.

The Bosomtwe Member of Parliament Thursday appearance comes after the North Tongu Member of Parliament filed an urgent parliament question for Dr Adutwum to comment on the bigoted publication by Badu Nkansah.

Hon Ablakwa in his text of the urgent question has asked if the Education Ministry is aware of the History of Ghana, Text Book 3 and Golden English Basic 4 which contain bigoted content targeted at the Ewe ethnic group.

“The text of my urgent question is as follows: “To ask the Honourable Minister responsible for Education whether the publications titled: History of Ghana, Text Book 3 by Badu Nkansah Publications authored by Badu Nkansah and Nelly Martinson Anim and Golden English Basic 4 authored by Okyere Baafi Alexander both of which contain bigoted content targeted at the Ewe ethnic group have come to his Ministry’s attention.”

He has also asked if the Ewe textbook was approved by any of the Agencies under Education Ministry and steps Government is taking to purge our schools and book shops from offensive, divisive and incendiary books.

Meanwhile, the publisher of the NaCCA unapproved textbook in a statement copied to Educationweb.com.gh has rendered an unqualified apology adding that investigations are underway into the incident.
