When the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-levy) is enforced in May 2022, only 40% of Ghanaians will be sending money electronically if it is really essential.
The survey attempted to gauge Ghanaians’ reactions to Parliament’s acceptance of the E-levy.
Prior to the passage, 73 percent of Ghanaians opposed the tax scheme.
On Wednesday, April 20, 2022, the study found that acceptance of the E-levy would have no impact on 9% of the population studied.
18% of the 5,182 survey respondents said they will find a way to avoid the E-levy. 26% will withdraw money, whereas 7% do not utilize Mobile Money (MoMo).
The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has announced that the E-Levy will be implemented on May 1, 2022.
The GRA claimed the decision was influenced by Parliament passing the E-Levy Bill. The E-Levy applies to all electronic transfers
