He is hopeful that the opposition party elects him again as their flagbearer.
However, our checks revealed that returning to the presidency in 2024 is not going to be an easy task for the former president.
Apart form the efforts of the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) to thwart his presidential ambition, there are some other factors that are likely to become a stumbling block on his way to power.
The following are some of them.
- Dumsor crisis: the problem of erratic power supply lasted for almost four years. Several businesses, households, individuals lost a lot in the days of Mr. Mahama’s presidency.
- Cancellation of trainee allowances: when he was president, Mr. Mahama cancelled all allowances of teacher and nurses trainees.
- Allegations against his person: there has been a number of issues against the person of former president John Dramani Mahama. These include the Ford bribery scandal, Airbus scandal, issues with slay queens, etc.
Others include some serious issues that came up in former president John Mahama’s time as president such as SADA, GYEEDA, bus branding, NHIS challenges, challenges in the school feeding program, unpaid arrears in the progressively free SHS program, banking sector crisis, etc.
