‘DIABOLO’ most rated Ghanaian classic movie – Enfexgh Throwback Thursday

Enfexgh Throwback Thursday brief us about a movie called Diabolo (1992) is a Ghanaian classic movie which tells a story of a man who has the power to transform into a serpent. He uses this power to sexually assault and kill women, mostly prostitutes. This role was played by Bob Smith Jnr, now referred to as Diabolo Man or Snake Man in the acting circles. [1][2]

The movie was produced by William Akuffo and Eben Mensah as directed by Bob Smith Jnr in Ghana, even though it is a Ghanaian movie the language used was English because the production team also targeted the external borders of the country.
The film has been studied as an example of Pentacostal influence in Ghanaian film.

Veteran Ghanaian actor, ‘Diabolo Man’ known in real life as Bob Smith Jnr has revealed that he once lived with 3 snakes in his apartment during his role in the movie.
Bob Smith, an Executive member of the Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG) added that he studied about snakes so he had no fear when it comes to handling species like that.

Bob Smith speaking in an interview on Joy FM’s Cosmopolitan Mix with the host, Sammy Forson, revealed that snakes gave him inspiration in his career as an actor.
“I used to have three snakes in my house. I learnt about snakes. I don’t fear snakes,” he disclosed. Hence, his role as diabolo man, made him who he is now!
