The Ministry of Education (MoE) by September this year will pay all allowances owed to teacher trainees in the country, the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Education, Mr Kwasi Kwarteng disclosed on Thursday.
Speaking in an interview monitored by EducationWeb.com.gh, he said the Education Ministry has engaged the Ministry of Finance to release some undisclosed amount for the payment of the allowances of the trained teacher’s.
According to him, the teachers on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, meet with the Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum at a Zoom conference to discuss the issues of the delay of the allowances and feeding grants.
“They yesterday made two demands which are their allowance and feeding grants, they told Adutwum that during their stay at home amid the covid they bought data for their studies and that they should be given some grant”
“So currently the Ministry of Education is in consultation with the Finance Ministry and other relevant stakeholders on the way forward to meet the demands of the trainees, so we urge them to be patient,” the spokesperson stated.
Mr Kwasi Kwarteng gave assurance that his outfit by September this year will settle all the allowances. “We owe them close to 7 months so we will duly pay all that is due to them, plans are far advance for the payment,” he added.
The leadership of the Teacher Trainee’s Association of Ghana (TTAG) confirming the allowance payment date to EducationWeb’s Okyere Darko George said September was the agreed period at the Zoom meeting.
