The Human Rights Division of the Accra High Court has ordered the Authorities of the Accra-based Achimota School to immediately admit two dread students, it denied admission on March 19, 2021, amid their long hair
Tyron Iras Marhguy and Oheneba Kwaku Nkrabea sued the Management of Motown for denying them admission into Achimota School on grounds that their dreadlock compromises the GES code of conduct and rules of the school.
Their suit comes after the Achimota School Headmistress rejected a directive to consider the rasta students for admission to join their colleagues to start academic activities for the 2021 academic year.
In their lawsuit, they asked the High Court to demand compensation from the school for the inconvenience, embarrassment, waste of time, and violation of his fundamental human rights and freedoms.
But, announcing the verdict of the case, the court presided over by Justice Gifty Agyei Addo ruled that the fundamental human rights of two Rastafarian students cannot be limited by the rules in question.
She in favour of the Rastafarian student asked Motown Management to consider the two 2020 BECE rasta graduates for admission into the school as their long hair breach no Ghana Education Service code of conduct.
