BECE Candidates to Confirm School Selections as they await their Results

The second stage of the Computerized School Selection to begin after the Basic Education Certificate Examination, candidates are to confirm the schools selected for placement as they awaits for their BECE results to be released. The confirmation of the schools selected is to avoid wrong placement of candidates into schools. Candidates always complained, they have been placed in schools they did not select, the confirmation will make candidates to be double sure of the schools the selected for placement.

School selections by the Junior High School students have been released to schools for parents to confirm the schools they selected for placements, students were given list of schools to select five schools in a preferential order. The Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) is used in placement of students into the Senior High Schools. The school selection is to give students access to confirm the schools they selected as their first, second, third, fourth and fifth choice. After the examination students can judge the outcome of their results which will give them an idea of the competition they are to face in getting their first school of choice.

The Computerized School Selection and placement system uses an algorithm to place students into the secondary schools, the system rank overall scores of candidates in the ascending order, highest to the lowest score, the available vacancies in the school per the program and residential status is considered, as the system run in a loop. Students who selected the school as their first choice will compete for a placement in the school based on their overall scores. If the overall scores does not match a school, the loop continues until the candidates overall scores matched with one of the five schools selected the loop ends once the candidate raw score match with a school, the student is automatically placed in that school, if all the five schools selected does not match with the raw scores, the candidate will not be placed in any of the school.

Candidates without school are given an option to do self placement, the self placement portal will give a list of schools that match with the candidate’s overall scores, students are given the opportunity to place themselves in any of the schools in the self placement portal. The self placement portal is first come, first serve as the school in the self placement portal reach its maximum capacity of enrollment, the school is automatically removed from the self placement portal.
