Bawku: Beautiful police officer attacked and shot dead during her visit to male colleague

A police officer was killed during a resurgence of violence in Bawku, Upper East Region.

Constable Regina Angenu of the Paga Police Station paid a visit to her colleague, Constable Erasmus Enkson of the Bawku Division, on Sunday, according to the police.

However, around 5:07 p.m., the duo was attacked by unknown assailants.

The deceased was shot in the groin and died while being treated at Presbyterian Mission Hospital.

The body was transported to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital for preservation and autopsy.

Meanwhile, sources have revealed that eight people were injured in varying degrees during the tense situation and were rushed to the Presbyterian Mission Hospital.

Insecurity has become a major concern in Bawku following gunshots in the early hours of Monday, December 27, 2021, which resulted in the loss of lives and the destruction of property in the township.

Following the violence, thirteen people were arrested and airlifted to Accra.

Since then, the government has implemented various curfews through the Interior Ministry to reduce tensions.

There was also a ban on smocking and male pillion riders.

The incident also resulted in increased security deployment to municipalities throughout the municipality.
