The Ghana Health Service has directed all Regional Health Directorates and facilities to implement, and strengthen, where necessary, immediate, comprehensive security and patient-care protocols to safeguard all patients, especially the most vulnerable.

This follows the disturbing incident of the reported missing baby at the Mamprobi Hospital and the subsequent statement issued by the Ministry of Health.
The Ghana Health Service’s Directive is contained in a memo dated February 18 addressed to all Regional Directors.
They were tasked to ensure: Enhanced staff identification systems (wearing of uniforms and name tags at all times within the facility), Dedicated post-natal ward presence, a mandatory discharge verification system, CCTV system upgrade and maintenance and intensified staff training.
According to the memo signed by the Director General of the GHS, Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, these measures, when effectively implemented, would ensure delivery of the highest standard of care and prevent the occurrence of such unfortunate incidents in the future.
Meanwhile, the Accra Regional Police Command has provided an update on the stealing of a four-day old baby boy at the Mamprobi polyclinic in Ablekuma South constituency.
Dansoman Divisional Commander, Superintendent Juliana Obeng who addressed the media on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 said on February 17, 2026 at about 10 am, one Abigail Dzukunu accompanied by Henrietta Abbey Blessed reported that an unidentified woman disguised as a nurse has stolen a newborn baby from the Mamprobi hospital’s post-natal ward.
According to the police statement, the baby’s mother, Precious Ankomah informed the police that she delivered the baby boy on February 14, 2026. She stated that three days after delivery a woman dressed in a nurse’s peach-coloured uniform took the baby under the pretext of administering medication and disappeared thereafter.
Police later visited the health facility, obtained statements and immediately launched a manhunt for the suspect.
Police disclosed that at about 3:40 am on Wednesday morning, a suspect, Latifa Salifu, 33 year-old and a cloth seller in Accra was arrested at the premises of Korle-Bu teaching hospital where she was found with baby suspected to have been the missing child.
Upon interrogation, the suspect claimed that she delivered at the hospital and was discharged due to lack of bed. However, police investigations at the hospital revealed that there was no record to support her claim.
The suspect is currently in police custody while arrangements are underway to place the baby under hospital care for safe keeping, further investigations and medical attention
