Akufo Addo flies to USA to organize fundraising towards National Cathedral Project

The president of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has reportedly flown to New York City to join for a fundraising event to help build the National Cathedral.

The National Cathedral organizing committee of Ghana held a successful fundraiser over the weekend in New York to get more money to erect the imposing edifice the ruling government promised the people of Ghana in the build-up to the 2016 elections.

In attendance was His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the event. The fundraiser was in aid of the ongoing National Cathedral project. After the ceremony, the 77-years Ghanaian president thanked those who availed themselves and willingly accepted to contribute their quota towards building the national cathedral.

He assured them that the project is not just for an individual but of a National interest hence why it is necessary they all pull resources to raise the cathedral. Per Wikipedia’s description, the National Cathedral of Ghana is a planned interdenominational Christian cathedral scheduled to be built in Accra, the nation’s capital, as part of Ghana’s 60th anniversary celebrations.

The design for the cathedral was unveiled by the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, in March 2018. The cathedral will have an auditorium capable of seating 5,000 as well as the requisite chapels, and a baptistery. The site will also house a music school, an art gallery, and a museum dedicated to the Bible.

The design of the cathedral reflects the art and culture of Ghanaian ethnic groups; the high pitched and staggered roof is reminiscent of Akan inspired architecture and the facade will be concave and decorated with timber in imitation of Ashanti royal stools.

The architect for the project is the British-Ghanaian architect David Adjaye, who also designed the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture
