Adwoa Sarfo Dragged After Saying The National Pledge Should Be Changed
Member of Parliament of Dome Kwabenya who doubles as a lawyer, Adwoa Sarfo has been dragged by social media users over her recent comment in parliament.
The NPP bigwig in parliament yesterday, February 6 suggested that the National Pledge should be reviewed for being biased.
Adwoa Sarfo claims the current National pledge should be reviewed because according to her, it is gender insensitive.
Adwoa Sarfo claims we refer to Ghana as our “motherland” but the pledge only talks about the toil of our forefathers omitting the immense contributions of mothers to the country.
She has therefore drawn the attention of the Speaker, as she has said the speaker should “walk the talk” as soon as possible.
“Mr Speaker, the national pledge talks about the toil, through the blood and toil of our fathers. Mr Speaker, it omits the mothers. Mr Speaker, the mothers also toil for this country. Mr. Speaker, I think that it is gender insensitive in this country when we are even referring to the country we call our motherland but when it comes to the pledge and we are referring to the toil, the fight the struggles we omit that of our mothers. Mr Speaker, I want to draw your attention to it. And we have to look at it again as a country so that we become more gender-sensitive when it comes to our national pledge”, she said.
Reacting to this, Ghanaians have dragged the member of parliament who doubles as a minister.
Ghanaians have said that the Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya is spewing rubbish and everything she has said should be swept under the canopy.
“If Misplaced priorities was a person, no one could do it better than this woman,” one netizen said.
Another added “Misguided, waste of time, nonsense, nothing to prioritize in the entire agenda set before parliament than a non-existing matter?”
