29-year-old man sentenced to prison for illegal gambling

A 29-year-old young man has been sentenced to prison for operating an illegal gambling center in the Central Region.

According to reports, the young man was jailed for nine months by the Assin Fosu District Court in the Central Region for operating a business without a license.

The convict, Isaac Eyison, pleaded guilty to the charges of illegal gaming in public.

The prosecutor, Chief Inspector Gilbert Ayongo disclosed that the convict Isaac Eyison, was arrested by the police after the police launched a patrol to clamp down on illegal businesses springing up in the Fosu Municipal Assembly. After the convict was prosecuted to court, he pleaded guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor made this report public on Sunday, June 6, 2022; saying that the police in Assin-Fosu gathered intelligence about the illegal gaming activities of the convict which had attracted high patronage.

He added that when Chief Inspector Johnson Dzikunu go to the gambling site, the others run away leaving the owner of the place who was arrested by the police. Some items reported to have been seized from the convict were three mobile phones, wristwatches, spectacles, five pieces of black square-shaped wood tied with a black rubber band, and GH¢510 cash.

After he was sent to the police station, he was interrogated and failed to answer some of the questions and also failed to provide his license to operate the gambling space.

The court presided over by Abdul Majeed Illiasu and sentenced Isaac Eyison to nine months in prison.
