The Vice President for the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Jacob Anaba, says the acquisition of 280,000 laptops for members of Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and the Coalition of Concern Teachers (CCT) is not free.
Delivering the State of the Nation Address on Tuesday 9th March 2021, The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, noted that government is facilitating the procurement of 280,000 laptops for members of Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and the Coalition of Concern Teachers (CCT).
“I am happy to announce that Government is facilitating the acquisition of two hundred and eighty thousand laptops for members of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and the Coalition of Concern Teachers (CCT) this year. Moving forward, the Minister for Education will soon detail an action plan for the implementation of the National Teacher Policy”, Akufo-Addo told Parliament.
After the President’s pronouncement, people took to social media to laud the president on the initiative.
Reacting to the statement with on Atinka FM’s AM Drive, with host Kaakyire Ofori Ayim, Vice President for the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Jacob Anaba, noted that although the initiative is a good one, the laptops are not free.
According to him, the teachers will bear a percentage of the cost of the laptop and the rest will be covered by government.
“ The laptops are not free; we as teachers are paying a percentage and government will take up the rest. Unlike the RLG laptops where teachers leave behind the laptops when on transfer, these new ones will be the property of the teachers,” he added.
Vice President for the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Jacob Anaba, also expressed displeasure in the President for failing to give an update on his government Free SHS policy.
