The date for the 2022 Budget Statement and Economic Policy of government presentation has been rescheduled from the 15th of November to the 17th of November 2021.
This is according to the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Andrew Asiamah Amoako.
“Parliament is engaged in another equally important assignment on 15th of November and therefore, the budget will be read here on 17th of December 2021,” he said.
The Deputy Majority Leader, Alex Afenyo-Markin, earlier indicated that the House would start the debate on the budget from Monday, November 22, and conclude on Friday, November 26, 2021.
Meanwhile, Senior political science lecturer at the University of Ghana, Prof Ransford Gyampo, has appealed to Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, to factor the demands of university teachers in the upcoming 2022 budget presentation.
Writing in an open letter to the Minister on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, Prof Gyampo cautioned the Minister against “the abused refrain used in countering” their demands: ‘We did not factor UTAG demands in the budget’.
“Kindly be reminded that we went on strike this year because we only wanted the government to restore us to the salary values of 2013. As you may be aware, in 2013, the entry point monthly salary of a University Lecturer was a pittance hovering around USD 2,084.
“In 2021, the same lecturer is paid around USD 997. The demand of lecturers this year, has been a simple restoration of the 2013 salary values,” he said in the letter.
