The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has issued a notification to companies involved in sports betting and lotteries, informing them about the implementation of a 10% tax on all winnings. This tax will come into effect starting from August 15, as part of the government’s strategy to broaden the tax base and boost domestic revenue.
The origins of this development trace back to March 2023, when Parliament passed three new bills. These bills include the Excise Duty Amendment Bill 2022, the Growth and Sustainability Levy Bill 2022, and the Income Tax Amendment Bill 2022.
Fast forward five months, the GRA is now raising awareness among individuals who engage in these gaming activities, urging them to remain mindful of this fresh policy and comply accordingly.
In the midst of this, certain Ghanaian sports enthusiasts express concern about the decision and how it might potentially affect their earnings.
